The Dallas Concilio’s mission is to advocate and enhance the quality of life for Hispanics through partnerships with communities. Dallas Concilio staff and volunteers engage local Hispanics in systematic community planning for input into the design and delivery of social, educational, and health care services; provide technical assistance to service providers to enhance the coordination of outreach to Hispanics; and provide cultural competence training to service providers. The Diabetes Awareness and Education in the Community (DAEC) program works with different community sectors to reduce diabetes complications and incidence through the creation of wellness and risk reduction programs; Psyched about Science and Math education program is for female Hispanic elementary students; Parents Supporting Quality Education program builds strong parental involvement in a child’s educational process; and Promotora (Advocate) Program is a grassroots outreach program on access to health care. Collaborative programs include annual Hispanic Media Fair; Latino Wellness Fair, HIV/SIDA Coalition, Dallas County Coalition on Dropout Prevention; CHIP Coalition, Leadership Development, and Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition.
