Founded in 1972, El Centro de la Raza is a civil rights organization that utilizes grassroots organizing, cultural promotions, and human services in the struggle for social equality, peace, and justice. The mission of El Centro is to empower children, youth, and families through work and study based on the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King and other freedom fighters. El Centro offers services in many areas, including economic development, child and elderly care, art/cultural awareness, youth leadership development, ESL classes, transitional housing, and voter registration.
