Established in 1870 in the settlement house tradition, Erie House evolved into one of the first comprehensive social service agencies in Chicago, serving the city’s low-income and immigrant residents. The organization’s mission is to promote a just and inclusive society by strengthening low-income, primarily Latino families through skill-building, access to critical resources, advocacy, and collaborative action. Operating from two sites in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood, Erie’s comprehensive programs help more than 5,000 participants annually create better lives for themselves and their families while strengthening community action and civic engagement. Erie Neighborhood House offers: nationally-accredited preschool and school-age child care for children ages 2 to 12, home day care network for infants and toddlers, adult basic education classes, community-based technology instruction, emergency food and referral services, and academic mentoring, personal development, and recreational opportunities for at-risk teens.
