The Unity Council
The Unity Council is dedicated to sustaining and improving the quality of life of Latino and other families who are residents of Oakland, California and to revitalize the Fruitvale neighborhood through a comprehensive program of physical, economic, and social development. The Unity Council is constructing the Fruitvale Transit Village, which consists of housing, commercial, and retail development as well as housing various nonprofit agencies. Other programs and services that are offered include: HomeOwnership Center; Senior Center; Environmental programs; Business Improvement District programs; Economic Development; Business Assistance; Día de los Muertos Festival; job readiness and employment services for limited-English/low-income persons; the only retail small business incubator in the Bay Area, a Farmers’ Market, park and open space development including Union Point Park development; and Child Development programs including operation of four Head Start and Early Head Start centers. |
