McAllen Affordable Homes, Inc. (MAHI) is a Texas nonprofit community housing development organization, which has been providing affordable homes for McAllen residents since 1976. MAHI’s mission is to eliminate substandard housing and make affordable lots and homes available to low- and moderate-income families residing within the city of McAllen. MAHI is unique in that it takes a comprehensive approach to meeting its objectives. MAHI prides itself in building “affordable communities” instead of simply building “affordable homes.” Certified by the State of Texas as a community housing development organization (CHDO), MAHI has established an impeccable reputation for its delivery of services in McAllen to the extent that there is currently a waiting list of 300 prescreened applicants awaiting their opportunity to become first time homebuyers. MAHI has also been a recipient of the Fannie Mae Foundation’s Maxwell Award for Excellence.
