La Academia de Lengua y Cultura
Academia de Lengua y Cultura Charter School (ALCCS) addresses the needs of bilingual (English/Spanish) and monolingual (English/Spanish) students from grades six to eight, who want to become literate in two languages and who wish to learn about the regional culture in depth. ALCCS features a curriculum and school environment that focus on the languages, the culture, and the history of the Chicano and Mexicano population of New Mexico and the Southwest. Students are taught using a 50/50 dual immersion approach in which each student is taught subject matter in his/her first and second languages. The premise behind the establishment of the school was to provide a small classroom environment where student needs can be more easily addressed ad parental involvement in their child’s education can be encouraged and nurtured. |
