LOZANO ELECTED CHAIR OF NCLR BOARD OF DIRECTORSWashington, DC – The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) announced today that Monica Lozano, Publisher and CEO of La Opinión, the nation’s largest Spanish-language daily which is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, has been elected as Chair of the NCLR Board of Directors. Ms. Lozano succeeds Ray Lozano (no relation), an energy executive from Detroit, Michigan, who has served as Acting Board Chair since July of this year. Ms. Lozano has been at La Opinión since 1985 where, until becoming Publisher and CEO in January 2004, she served as President overseeing the day-to-day management of the newspaper. In addition to her role at La Opinión, she is a Senior Vice President of Impremedia, LLC, the parent company of La Opinión and the nation’s first Spanish-language newspaper chain. Ms. Lozano has served on the NCLR Board of Directors since 1999. In addition, she currently sits on the Boards of the Walt Disney Company, Tenet Health Care Corporation, and Union Bank of California. In 2001, she was appointed to the University of California Board of Regents. Lozano also serves on the Board of Trustees of the University of Southern California as well as several nonprofit organizations. “We are very fortunate to have had such a renowned and respected figure on our Board of Directors for the past five years and now as Chair.
