NCLR PRESIDENT MURGUÍA TO SPEAK ON “IT STARTS WITH YOU” VOTER MOBILIZATION CAMPAIGNNCLR Chicago-area and Midwest Affiliates to Be Honored at Reception Chicago, IL Janet Murguía, President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., will join leaders of some of the most prominent community-based organizations in the Midwest – including NCLR Chicago-area Affiliates Alivio Medical Center, Association House of Chicago, El Hogar del Niño, Elgin Community College, Erie Neighborhood House, Gads Hill Center, Illinois Migrant Council, Instituto del Progreso Latino, Latinos United, Little Village CDC, Mujeres Latinas En Acción, and the Resurrection Project – at a reception on Monday, October 16. The reception will honor NCLR’s Midwest Regional Affiliate Network – a group of 61 community-based organizations providing a broad range of services to Latinos throughout the region – which is gathering in Chicago to discuss the status of the Latino community in the Midwest. The event will take place at the headquarters of Mujeres Latinas En Acción beginning at 5:30 p.m. Murguía will also discuss the recently launched “It Starts With You/Empieza Contigo” voter mobilization campaign, a project of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, the largest coalition of national Latino organizations in the country. The campaign is a multimedia, nonpartisan civic engagement effort to urge Latinos to vote on November 7. MEDIA ADVISORY
