NCLR TO RELEASE REPORT ON PRACTICES IN THE CREDIT CARD INDUSTRY WHICH ADVERSELY AFFECT LATINO CONSUMERSWashington, DC – On Thursday, February 15 at 1:00 p.m. EST (please see toll-free call-in information below), the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., will hold a telephonic press conference to release a report, Latino Credit Card Use: Ticket to Prosperity or Debt Trap?, which shows that Latino credit card holders need greater access to affordable credit but are also at risk of being adversely affected by harmful credit card industry practices. Latino consumers are disproportionately within the category of American households most likely to struggle with managing credit card debt. While the majority of American households who use credit cards do not carry a balance, research shows that credit card use and debt is on the rise in the Latino community, with 77% of Latino consumers carrying a balance on their credit cards, and Latino households spending 19% of their income on debt payments. The report will also be available to download on the NCLR website, www.nclr.org, at 1:00 p.m. EST. MEDIA ADVISORY
