NCLR PRESIDENT MURGUÍA TO TESTIFY BEFORE CONGRESS ON LATINOS AND HUNGER

Janet Murguía, President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., will testify on the issue of Latinos and hunger Tuesday, March 13, before the House Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Nutrition, and Forestry of the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture. The hearing will be presided over by Subcommittee Chair Joe Baca (D-CA) and will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Room 1302 of the Longworth House Office Building.

In December, a report on hunger and food insecurity within the Latino community released by NCLR garnered widespread national interest and attention. The report, Sin Provecho: Latinos and Food Insecurity, which examines the effectiveness of food assistance programs in allaying hunger and food insecurity in the Latino community, found that nearly 20% of Hispanics suffer from limited or lack of access to nutritious food each year, compared to 12% of all Americans.
