NCLR TO PREVIEW CONFERENCE AT NEWS BRIEFING

Miami, FL – The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., will host a news briefing for members of the media on Tuesday, July 10 to preview the upcoming 2007 NCLR Annual Conference which will take place July 21-24 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The briefing, which will be held at the Freedom Tower beginning at 10:30 a.m., is designed to familiarize key South Florida-area media with the speakers, events, and highlights of the NCLR Annual Conference.

Univision News Anchor Maria Elena Salinas has been invited to join NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguía to discuss one of the key focuses of the Conference – citizenship and the Hispanic vote – and to announce a new partnership between NCLR, Univision, and the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), ¡ya es hora 2008!, which is a comprehensive multimedia grassroots campaign designed to help achieve an historic Hispanic voter turnout in the 2008 presidential election.

The NCLR Annual Conference is the largest national gathering of its kind in the Hispanic community, serving as the meeting ground for community leaders, activists, elected and appointed officials; members of the corporate, philanthropic, and academic communities; and youth. Last year’s Conference in Los Angeles contributed millions of dollars to the city’s economy and attracted more than 23,000 participants. Organizers believe that the emerging and increasingly vocal Hispanic presence in our nation’s public policy debates and political process will draw many to Miami for this year’s annual event.
