Civil Rights Leaders to discuss NCLB Hurdles on Press Call

Washington, DC – Immediately following a Tuesday afternoon meeting with President Bush and Education Secretary Spellings to discuss the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), civil rights leaders and education experts will hold a press call to discuss key provisions in NCLB, including:

  • Assessments of schools and students
  • Critical provisions for English language learners
  • Availability of Supplemental Educational Services
  • High school reform and the graduation rate crisis
  • Chronic under-funding of the legislation

These civil rights leaders, all supporters of NCLB, will be available to talk about important elements in the bill as well as a Congressional strategy for bipartisan support that rises above politics and focuses on the need to implement high academic standards for America’s school kids.
