NCLR PRESIDENT TO ADDRESS NATIONAL PRESS CLUB ON THE EFFECT OF THE IMMIGRATION ISSUE ON LATINO VOTERSWashington, DC Janet Murguía, President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., will discuss the impact of the immigration debate on Latino voters at a National Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon on Wednesday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m. In the face of new House and Senate immigration “push-backs” on the presidential candidates of both parties, Murguía will address the galvanizing effect of the immigration issue on Latino voters and will draw into question the value of scapegoating immigrants as a down-ticket “wedge issue” in congressional races this November. The luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. and Murguía’s remarks will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session. Advance reservations should be made by contacting Pat Nelson at the National Press Club, (202) 662-7501 or pnelson@press.org. Cost of luncheon admission is $16 for National Press Club members, $28 for their guests, and $35 for general admission, and tables for eight guests may be reserved for $224. Credentialed members of the press who want to cover the event but not eat at the luncheon may attend and sit in the press gallery. MEDIA ADVISORY
