NCLR PRESIDENT AND CEO TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2008 CONGRESSIONAL HISPANIC CAUCUS INSTITUTE'S PUBLIC POLICY CONFERENCE

Washington, DC—Janet Murguía, President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), will participate in a summit with a panel of Spanish language media company representatives to discuss the power of the Latino vote in the 2008 presidential election. The summit, titled Spanish Language Media Companies: A New Source of Latino Empowerment During the 2008 Presidential Elections, will convene at the 2008 Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s (CHCI) Public Policy Conference on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The panelists will also discuss the coverage of Latinos in the news and entertainment industry.

Following the summit, Murguía will speak at the CHCI’s opening luncheon, Immigration: A Call to Action, which will address comprehensive immigration reform in the next Congress. Representative Luis Gutierrez (D–IL) and Ray Suarez, Senior Correspondent for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, will join Murguía to discuss what needs to happen to realize comprehensive immigration reform.
