DEL NORTE AND NCLR TO LAUNCH DENVER'S FIRST ECONOMIC MOBILITY CENTER

Denver, CO—The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and Del Norte will open Denver’s first economic mobility center on Thursday, November 20 at 12:30 p.m. at the Del Norte Neighborhood Development Corporation. The center, to be called Mas a Ti, will provide low- and moderate-income families with financial products and services such as check cashing, money transfers, money orders, bill payment, and case management services in the areas of homeownership, Individual Development Accounts, credit counseling, and much more. These services are of particular importance to the Latino community since 36% of Hispanics do not hold bank accounts. Without bank accounts, they are more likely to turn to non-bank financial service providers, like convenience check cashers, who are often predatory.

The Mas a Ti storefront is a pilot program financially supported by JP Morgan Chase, NCLR, and the City of Denver’s Office of Development. Mas a Ti will have financial service teller stations, support spaces, private pre- and post-purchase counseling offices, and a classroom for group pre- and post-purchase education.
