Latino Access Project

Overview

NCLR and its Washington, DC affiliates partnered with the Workforce Investment Council (WIC) to create the Universal Access Committee and the Latino Access Project. This project seeks to increase the number of Latino-serving community-based organizations in the Washington, DC area participating in the One-Stop Career System.

IMPACT:
  • NCLR organized nine NCLR affiliated organizations to form the National Capital Area Workforce Development Network. The entire network has been trained on NCLR’s Signature Approach to Workforce Development.
  • Staff widely distributed the DC WIC Universal Access Committee work plan and approach to NCLR affiliates as an example of how to effectively provide value to local workforce boards.
  • NCLR staff have fully integrated NCLR's National Capital Area Workforce Development Network into the Washington, DC WIC, and has greatly increased the number of Latino-serving community-based organizations in the Washington D.C. area participating in the One-Stop Career System.
For example:
  • NCLR initiated the creation of the Universal Access Committee and in conjunction with affiliates, leads the Latino Affairs Subcommittee.
  • The Latino Affairs Subcommittee devised a work plan, which subsequently became a priority for the WIC. One of the first objectives is to have all NCLR affiliates become certified eligible training providers.
