Summary

This statistical brief is the first-ever compilation of statistical data focusing on Latinos in the Federal criminal justice system.

Description

This statistical brief is the first-ever compilation of statistical data focusing on Latinos in the Federal criminal justice system. The brief analyzes data from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and the U.S Department of Health and Human Services. NCLR's research suggests that two factors have contributed to the disproportionate incarceration of low-level, nonviolent offenders in the past 20 years: the "tough on crime" and "war on drugs" policies.
