Luz Social Services website

Luz Social Services provides culturally competent community-based prevention and education services for the Latino community in Tucson, Arizona and for the mining communities of eastern Pinal and southern Gila counties in Arizona. In its 16-year history, Luz has served as a capacity builder for its community, providing technical assistance, guidance and support to build an infrastructure for learning, substance abuse prevention, and health promotion. Luz currently operates prevention and education programs in five throughout Arizona.

AmeriCorps members at Luz will serve as tutors for youth ages 11-18 at the Luz Academy and Guerrero School in reading/math/language in classroom group work or after school one-on-one sessions. Members will also be trained to teach substance abuse prevention education for youth and families, as well as facilitating community based programs and community mobilization at five Luz sites.
