Voice of Calvary Ministries is a nonprofit, nondenominational, Christian community development organization that aims to build up people so they will rebuild their communities.

AmeriCorps members will serve as community organizers in areas that were hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina. VOCM will assist in meeting immediate needs through its relationships with more than 300 churches nationally. The organization will recruit AmeriCorps members from those communities, as they are familiar with local needs. VOCM members will also help renovate and restore churches as community centers and houses through attracting skilled volunteer groups and establishing work teams from displaced residents. VOCM will provide trained counselors to assist with document restoration and disaster relief registration. In addition, members will assist communities in designing plans to construct new houses, emphasizing homeownership for low- to medium-income families.
