NCLR WILL EXAMINE THE PRESIDENT'S SPEECH FOR MEANINGFUL REFORM
Washington, DC—President Barack Obama’s address to Congress tonight presents an opportunity for Americans to actively join the health coverage discussion and learn more specifics on the administration’s vision for health care reform. As an organization committed to getting health care reform done this year, NCLR (National Council of La Raza)—the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States—will look at how the President’s plan will address the current challenges that keep Latinos from accessing affordable health care.
NCLR is encouraged by the President’s deeper engagement with Congress to ensure the movement of a reform plan. The Latino community is plagued by uninsurance and health disparities, and each day, solutions to reform America’s health care system and fall by the wayside and widespread suffering is allowed to persist. As our nation’s leaders return to Washington, DC and efforts to pass health care reform legislation are amplified, it is imperative that the debate remains centered on the real issue of the broken health care system. NCLR will be prepared to comment following the President’s remarks.
