In an effort to engage NCLR Health Affiliates and partners on a broader and more consistent basis, NCLR's Institute for Hispanic Health (IHH), with support from Eli Lilly, launched its first-ever Health Summit immediately preceding the 2012 NCLR Annual Conference.
The second annual Health Summit was held right before the 2013 Annual Conference, on July 18–19 in New Orleans. Panelists updated attendees on different facets of the continued implementation of the Affordable Care Act as well as the potential impact of immigration reform on health care efforts. A special session featured representatives from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services including HHS Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health, Dr. Nadine Gracia. Attendees also had the opportunity to highlight their own successful programs and advocacy work in an evening poster session. Check out the photos below from this very successful event!
The goals of this unique collaboration between NCLR’s programming and policy components are to:
- Educate and empower attendees on major policy issues affecting the Latino community, providing them with knowledge and resources to face these head on
- Provide a forum for attendees to network and share examples of successful programming and advocacy efforts
- Share effective advocacy strategies, including the use of social media
Presentations from all of our panel sessions as well as the poster session are available in the 2013 Presentations tab.
