Citizen Assistance Program

NCLR’s Citizenship Assistance Program provides grants to community-based organizations offering assistance to eligible legal permanent residents with the citizenship application process, coupled with technical assistance to help organizations build their capacity to promote citizenship through on-site support services and citizenship workshops. During 2009 and 2010, with funding from the Knight Foundation, NCLR supported 48 organizations in 22 states and the District of Columbia to collectively assist 10,772 eligible legal permanent residents in applying for U.S. citizenship.

Over the long term, the project aims to strengthen the capacity and infrastructure of local organizations to continue nonpartisan civic engagement and incorporate those activities into the mission of their organizations.
