Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) was founded in 1983, Brooklyn, New York, to revitalize the communities of Cypress Hills, City Lane, and the “north core” of East New York by providing affordable housing development, homeownership, landlord and tenant counseling, economic development, community organizing, and educational and recreational programming to the youth, families, and adults of the greater Cypress Hills area. Some of CHLDC’s achievements include the development of 259 units of affordable housing in 42 newly renovated buildings; rehabilitation of a church hall into a desperately needed child care center along with the founding of the Cypress Hills Family Day Care Network and In Home Head Start program; and founded two alternative public elementary schools: The Cypress Hills Community School for 280 students which features a dual-language (English/Spanish) curriculum and Cypress Hills Collegiate Preparatory High School.
