Southwest Improvement Council

Southwest Improvement Council
Denver,Colorado
SouthWest Improvement Council was incorporated in Colorado in 1988. SWIC is a southwest and metro Denver nonprofit organization, which provides services at the local neighborhood level, meeting urgent human needs and empowering residents to become involved as volunteers who take responsibility for their community. At the Westwood Community Center, which it operates, SWIC provides youth and senior programs and emergency food, clothing, and shelter assistance to residents in need. SWIC also collaborates with other agencies and local government to provide decent, affordable housing for low- and moderate-income residents, eliminate prejudice and discrimination, combat community deterioration, and lessen neighborhood tension. During 1995 SWIC formed a separate nonprofit entity name SouthWest Neighborhood Housing Corporation (SWNHC) for the purpose of developing affordable housing projects.
