The path to citizenship is difficult for many immigrants. One of the key hurdles can be paying application fees.
Too often, immigrants must decide between waiting to naturalize while they save enough funds or resorting to quick, often predatory, lending options. The lack of information about safe financial options leaves Latino families vulnerable to bad products and economic instability.
To address these barriers, we developed a national initiative with our Affiliates that combines financial capability with immigration legal services. Legal permanent residents receive both citizenship application assistance and financial coaching on:
- Household budgeting and savings
- How to build and maintain good credit
- Savings or loans that can help cover the cost of the U.S. citizenship application
