Like the 50 states, the District of Columbia has its own juvenile justice system. Youth in the DC area are tried in the DC Family Superior Court; those who are sentenced to confinement are placed at Oak Hill Youth Center. Those who are not confined are referred to diversion programs run by community-based organizations or the city government.
