2008 marked NCLR’s 40th Anniversary and we kicked off our yearlong celebration on March 3 with the Official Grand Opening of the Raul Yzaguirre Building and the dedication of the new Plaza de los Afiliados.
Throughout the year, NCLR celebrated its four decades of impact with numerous events and activities. This included four special events that are showcased annually— the NCLR Capital Awards Gala, the National Issue Briefing and Advocacy Day, the NCLR Annual Conference, and the NCLR ALMA® Awards.
40th Anniversary Highlights:
- Janet Murguía, NCLR President and CEO, was the first Hispanic to give the keynote at Birmingham’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast
- Launch of the Wave of Hope campaign
- A new partnership with Democracia U.S.A to engage and mobilize Latino voters
- Janet Murguía’s speech at the National Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon Series
- Launch of Yo Votaré
