Resources for ResearchersOverview For almost two decades, NCLR’s Office of Research, Advocacy and Legislation has documented the status and progress of the Latino community on a range of issues, from education to wages and income to homeownership status. NCLR’s policy-oriented and applied research activities were initiated in the late 1980s to help respond to the absence of information on Latino socioeconomic well-being and to inform its policy agenda. Over the years, NCLR’s policy research has deepened to include not only the documentation of problems, but also the identification of responses to existing social and economic challenges; it has also broadened to include non-traditional or new issues, such as tax and criminal justice policy. These stages in the evolution of NCLR’s research and production process have developed to address and adapt to demographic and other changes among Latinos, new issues identified by NCLR affiliates and the larger community, and the varied social and political environments within which this work is carried out.
