Description: The Ron Brown Scholarship is open to African-American high school seniors who are academically talented and highly motivated, and who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree on a full-time basis. You must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident and demonstrate excellent academics, exceptional leadership potential, financial need, and a record of impact on your community through activities and service to others. This award provides $10,000 per year for four years.

Description: The Breakthrough Collaborative Students Teaching Students Internship is available to high school and college students who are interested in teaching underserved middle school students the academic skills they will need to enter into, and succeed in, college-preparatory high schools. You must demonstrate a love of learning, an enthusiastic and adventurous spirit, and a willingness to work hard to be considered for this six-week summer internship. A summer living allowance is granted. and you may apply for an additional living allowance supplement.

Description: The Davidson Fellows Award is open to students who can demonstrate noteworthy achievements through the creation of a "significant piece of work" aimed at improving the lives of others in the areas of science, technology, mathematics, music, literature, and/or philosophy. A "significant piece of work" is defined as an exceptionally creative application of existing knowledge; a new idea with high impact; an innovative solution with broad-range implications; an important advancement that can be replicated and built upon; an interdisciplinary discovery; an exemplary performance; and/or another demonstration of extraordinary accomplishment. You must also be born after October 1, 1985 and be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident to be eligible for this award.

Description: The Siemens Westinghouse Competition is comprised of an individual competition and a team competition. The individual competition is open to high school seniors who will graduate no later than September 1, 2004 (even though the deadline date is this year). The team competition consists of two to three members from any level in high school. Individual and team entries will receive separate awards. You must submit a research project in mathematics, engineering, or the biological and physical sciences, or a combination of these disciplines.

Description: The Target All-Around Scholarship is open to high school seniors and college students who are committed to their communities through volunteer service, education, and family involvement. In order to apply, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a minimum 2.0 GPA. This scholarship is for use at a vocational, technical, two-year, or four-year school. The award is primarily based on your community volunteer hours and volunteer leadership awards and honors. Recipients will be notified on or about February 15. Employees of Target, Dayton Hudson Corp., Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America, their subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies (and their spouses), or parents, children, siblings (and their spouses), and persons living in the same households of employees are not eligible to apply. If you are a previous recipient, you are not eligible to re-apply. Preference is given to students who reside in a community where a Target store is located.
