The Employment Litigation Section of the U.S. Department of Justice addresses charges against state and local government employers, and enforces the provisions of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978, and other federal laws prohibiting employment practices that discriminate on the grounds of race, sex, religion, ornational origin.

The Office of Special Council for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices (OSC) of the U.S. Department of Justice provides assistance in three major areas: (1) protecting U.S. citizens and legal immigrants from employment discrimination based upon national origin and/or citizenship status, unfair documentary practices, or retaliation; (2) prevention of unlawful discrimination through outreach, and (3) providing advice and counsel on policy issues affecting the civil rights of U.S. citizens and immigrants.

The Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor administers the wage, hour, and child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as several other programs covering prevailing wages for government contracts and farm labor, family and medical leave, immigration, and polygraph testing. If you believe your rights under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) have been violated or that you have been the victim of discriminated in regard to your pay or back wages, the Division will attempt to resolve your complaint administratively by contacting your employer. If these efforts fail, it may attempt to litigate on your behalf, depending upon the facts and circumstances of your complaint.

The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs administers provisions that prohibit discrimination by federal contractors and subcontractors and require them to take affirmative action to ensure that all individuals have an equal opportunity for employment, without regard to race, sex, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, or status as a Vietnam-era or special disabled veteran. The programs apply to certain contractors and subcontractors holding federal or federally-assisted contracts.

OSHA's mission is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health. OSHA and its state partners have approximately 2,100 inspectors, plus complaint discrimination investigators, engineers, physicians, educators, standards writers, and other technical and support personnel spread over more than 200 offices throughout the country. This staff establishes protective standards, enforces those standards, and reaches out to employers and employees through technical assistance and consultation programs.
