Host a Fourth of July Event!

Picnics, Potlucks, and the Promise of America:  Families United for Immigration Reform
July 4–11, 2009
Celebrate our nation’s immigrant history and advocate reform in 2009

Join advocates all throughout the country in celebrating the Fourth of July with friends and family and calling for immigration reform! This event is designed to include the entire family, from young to old, with activities for all, including:
-          Drawing pictures of your American family
-          Writing postcards about what America means to you
-          Calling congressional leaders to urge them to reform immigration for families, workers, the economy, and for all Americans

We need to achieve comprehensive immigration reform in 2009.  When President Obama spoke at the 2008 NCLR Annual Conference as a presidential candidate, he vowed to take up immigration reform during his first year in office.  We need to keep President Obama and all of our elected officials accountable to the promise to pass immigration reform.
We need 279 votes to pass immigration reform:  218 votes in the House of Representatives, 60 votes in the Senate, and one presidential signature.
218 House Members + 60 Senators + One President =
279 Votes for Immigration Reform
Change begins at the local level. By hosting a Fourth of July event, you will bring people together to celebrate our nation’s history, honor the American experience, and advocate for commonsense solutions to the immigration issue that reflect basic American values of fairness, justice, and equality. This brief kit will give you the basic information you will need to plan an Independence Day event in your own community.  You can make a difference!
