U.S. Citizenship Application Processing Session

In the last few years alone there have been record increases in the number of applications submitted for U.S. citizens
hip. Despite these increases, there are still about eight million legal residents – 2.3 million of whom live in California – who are eligible to become citizens but have not yet applied. NCLR, in collaboration with the ya es hora Campaign and ConAgra Foods, hosted a citizenship application processing session that helped hundreds of Latinos:
- Receive step-by-step guidance in filling out all forms required to apply for U.S. citizenship
- Obtain assistance with any questions about applying for citizenship, especially those regarding what to expect once the application was complete

HOME Clinic
10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
NCLR partnered with the San Diego Housing Opportunities Collaborative to host a HOME Clinic. The HOME Clinic combined pro bono legal advice, housing counseling, and loss mitigation to help those families who were struggling to keep up with their mortgage payments identify resources and assistance. The event centered on the advice of professional housing counselors from agencies certified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Housing counselors are independent advisors who work on the family’s behalf to help them negotiate with their lender. Participants were asked to register in advance to guarantee an opportunity to visit with a counselor, attorney, or service representative. All participants received additional resources, including information on future clinics, community resources, housing counseling agencies, and legal assistance.
